Andy's Charity: CLIC Sargent

Hometown: Cambridge (Cambridgeshire)

I have wanted to set out on a substantial adventure and having completed three incredible years at Durham, a vacant summer seemed the perfect opportunity to do so. I completed a smaller trip of 2000km across France and it was a huge success, raising £2000km for a paediatric cancer ward in Cambridge and proving hugely enjoyable. Our trip this summer is on a much bigger scale and I look forward to the challenge, being able to cover so many countries is a daunting task but I am confident the two us can keep each other going. I am really looking forward to seeing so much of Europe at a pace which will allow for taking in some detail but which will hopefully (!) allow us to cover most of the continent in one Summer. I am particularly looking forward to touring Scandinavia and also the final section in Italy when I hope to be able to see some Serie A football. My focus for the journey will be to see and capture as much of Europe as possible. I'm intending on keeping a journal and taking as many photos as I can, if we can do this whilst covering good distances then fantastic!

Andy's Charity: CLIC Sargent

CLIC Sargent logo CLIC Sargent is a fantastic charity. Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. CLIC is the only organisation to offer care and support during treatment, in hospital, at home and at their very special holiday homes. They help children and their families during treatment and afterwards, whether it is to help survivors or support the bereaved. Their unwavering focus on healing the effects that cancer has on children and their families alike makes CLIC a unique and indispensable organisation for numerous U.K. families. Cancer can affect any of us and I think CLIC are essential in making sure that families get through such a difficult experience. Please give generously to what I believe is a very worthy cause.

Jonny's Charity: WaterAid

WaterAid logo

Having spent my last summer in Honduras as well as spending a large part of my Biology degree learning about the rising needs for water today, I have seen the importance of clean and healthy water to avoid many problems, such as disease and human conflict.

On a personal note, this cycling adventure is particularly important to raise a substantial amount for WaterAid, a great charity, but also to visit and experience different cultures, which I have not been able to explore before, especially the Eastern European countries, which have a huge amount of natural beauty, unknown and unseen to most.

I am also very interested in ecology and conservation, so I am eager to discover the wildlife from all over Europe, and being without the engine may improve my chance to see more.
